<3
Oye… you're heading for the K word
Hai hai… what is with everyone calling me weird aaj kal… first Aman now you
I'm coming I'm coming!
What is so pagal about that? *sobs*
I dunno. I'm just quoting what I heard. I don't have a clue either way. Its only significance in this discussion is that Aman was saying the book is good for knowledge about Afghanistan in those days, and I said, “Well I've heard two sides to that aspect too :/”… but thank you for the info hun. <3 It would be interesting to compare this book to another one written about Afghanistan in that time period, though.
Hahahaha… another tip for you Aman… DON'T disagree with Rani about Aaja Nachle… … especially the Imran Khan bits…
Shereenaaaaa you have to tell me what's new hun
Aman – LMBO hahahaha… that's so cute! Don't you feel all Bollywood-ish and romantic?
Rani – I know sweetheart. Those words comfort me, somehow. I'm like Shreya Ghoshal's voice in Bairi Piya (my current obsession… )… dil ka dard na jaane saudaaii, haaye ram duhaai… pagla, itna na jaane… na jaane na jaane jaane jaane haai… bada re bedardi… AND THEN it switches to baheke baheka baaton mein teri, dheere dheere aane lagi… jugnuun ne mujhse kaha, aisa hai yeh piya tera… le hi jaayega tera jiya… I LOVE LOVE LOVE the innocence practically ooooooozing out of this song… everything about it from her voice to the composition of the music to the way it's shown in the film to the lyrics… everything is PERFECT. SO beautifully perfect. LOVE it. <3
OMG woman… what kind of a Bollywood bubble are you living in where thunderstorms are yucky?
Hahaha indeed =D
Yes check it out, I've been on a bit of a remix high of late… have been checking out Love Mera Hit Hit remix (AWESOME…), Hai Junoon (AWESOME… again!)… but my all-time favourite shall always remain the Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai one. π Lots of crazy memories of dancing to that one you see…
And I've also been brushing up on my classical music-y type songs in Bollywood at the same… I am in LOVE with Mere Dholna from Bhool Bhulaiya, it's so so so wonderful. I don't know what category of classical music this song would fall into – but the beginning voices thing the singer does is very Devdas-ish (Maar Dala style..), though. lol. π The amazing diversity of songs in the Indian culture never ceases to amaze me… I really need to check out the Wikipedia articles on this… :/
But it's a WONDERFUL tune. Makes you want to dance as well, but a different style of dancing… OK ramble over! Hehe…
Boo

……….. would you believe I was dancing to this song earlier on today… the remix version… ohboyohboy IT KICKS A.SS TO DANCE TO!! SICK tune.
Thank you.
Hahahahah… I LOVE the way I make absolutely no sense sometimes… but somehow I think Tayba would understand what the heck I'm on about… she always seems to, weirdly enough… :/ LOL.. but you got the gist of it, yay! Yes yes definitely read the book.
Check out The Notebook OMG DON'T get Tayba started on it lol… varna she'll never shut up… that, and A Walk To Remember by the same author! π (Both of them, I'd recommend too… have you seen AWTR the movie by any chance? Because I didn't like the movie as much as the book, and Tayba was all like, “OMG OMG BOO YOU DID NOT LIKE THE MOVIE YOU SAALI? ” hahahahahaha… ) I haven't read The Choice, how is it?
You seem to be into a lot of desi fiction huh? I haven't read The Namesake, no… I'm currently reading a biography of Led Zeppelin written by their tour manager, Richard Cole… it is obviously no piece of literary work, but it's really interesting to see how the band was formed, etc. etc. One thing that annoys me though, is the dialogue in the book… it seems kind of obvious that he's paraphrasing the words (obviously as he can't remember every single conversation word for word, but also in the way the dialogues themselves seem to be – too simple and to-the-point, and I doubt that's how ALL the people in the book spoke ALL the time… ), almost as though he's trying to make it seem like a story and blahh. But I'm enjoying reading it for the information's sake.
I will also add The Namesake to my bucket list lol. =)
You know something funny, I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION WHATSOEVER of reading Kiran Desai's The Inheritance of Loss, and yet whenever I read about the story, it seems so familiar… it's so strange. I even remember imagining everything in my head too… argh I hate it when that happens!
Glad you're doing well Shereena (LOVELY name by the way…) and I'm just all blah-ed out in general, about everything. And I do tend to exaggerate so don't worry too much about it. If you read my posts on here, it's pretty much easy to figure out how I am, anyway…
Aman,
That's the thing. I've heard the situation itself is not very realistic, either. :/ I've heard both ways and I don't have a clue what Afghanistan was like in those days… I have ATSS lined up for reading. π And I will try and check out The Writing On My Forehead too, not sure when yet… :/
Oh gosh can you believe, I *still* have somewhere (I saved it cos of memories and stuff lol..) the list of books you recommended for me… I remember writing it on a small pink paper and sticking it up on my noticeboard. Ahhh the memories!
I want to read MC too, I will definitely check it out when I have time.
Fluff book wise – Tayba will kill me for this – and it's not really FLUFF, I guess, it's actually very nicely written – have you read Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook? You've probably seen/heard of the movie, but the book is a wonderful read if you just want to sit back and relax. π
And GOST, yes, do. Khushi – don't know if you know her? – recommended this book to me and WOW. The way she writes is wow. I guess I see good writing as a water-filled sponge. If you can go back over it again and again and still squeeze something more out of it, if there's always a pleasure in re-absorbing what's already been said once, or finding new droplets of water to absorb, then I guess that's what I call good writing. Meh. I don't know. I'm still finding out. But GOST is DEFINITELY a sponge LOADED with water. OK I think I've stopped making sense…

I don't know. Cos.
Has anyone read The Kite Runner? What did they think of it? Too contrived
and caricature-like characters, or a well-written piece of work?
How do you distinguish between good writing and bad writing?
I'm confused. While I liked Hosseini's writing in The Kite Runner, it did
not touch me and shake me in the same way Roy's The God of Small Things did.
Roy's writing – I felt compelled to go back and read the sentences again and
full absorb the words, but at the same time, Hosseini has some beautifully
constructed sentences.
I was just reading some fantastic comments on a blog post about how The Kite
Runnerβs characters were not believable enough and it felt as though Hosseini
was just using a formula to pull at the heartstrings of people. Confusing
stuff.
I don't even know if I should be comparing Kite Runner to God of
Small Things, but I'm just using it as an example of how different pieces of
writing touched me in different ways.
Blah. I need to read more!!
I wouldn't want Shah Rukh to sign it to anyone else but Boo. The name and its identity mean enough for me to let it be that he writes with his hand for me.
Gods torture you and torment you and test you and tease you with pain, don't they? And then all the pain vanishes with even a second of their incomparable love, na? They have no logic, they do things their way, and you just pray and wish and hope you are a part of their bigger plan in a happy way, but you never really know until the moment comes. You always heed their words, but they never heed yours… and yet, they look after you and care for you as delicately and passionately as they would a flower. You constantly think, why am I doing this, why do I even bother, and you try and cut your strings… and then you realise, how do you leave God? Whatever else you may see do experience in life, those few moments with God never change. And the rest of the time spent in pain, well, you suffer. You suffer willingly, in whatever willing way it is possible to be, when you have no choice but to have God in your heart. Your life, soul, hell, heart itself, feels incomplete without God. And the pain of not having God in your life is always infinitely worse than the pain of having the damn bugger in your heart. You feel enriched for having spent time – hours minutes seconds at a time – with God. You aspire to be like Him, to match his ideals, to have a bit of Him in you such that it will help you to survive this world. He is your words of comfort and solace when you need them, a helping hand and heart. And He is always by your side, in your thoughts, in your actions, in your mind spirit soul, and for Him, you would lay your life down.
Sigh. Tujh mein Rab dikhta hai, yaara main kya karoon…?
I want to cry.
wahahahahahahaha I guess in that respect we are so untwinlike Rani jee
I get pissed off and irritated, but that's at a shallow level – I CANNOT even REMEMBER the last time I was actually angry in the deep sense of the word… hahahaha, my exboyfriend said thanks to me because I apparently showed him how to unleash the feeling of anger that he felt so scared to show out… However the heck that worked. lol.
Anger if it has a basis is understandable but getting irritated at the simplest, tiniest of things just gets annoying after a while. I always wonder how they can bear to be so angry throughout so much of the day. It's quite scary. When do they smell the flowers and stare into the sky and appreciate music? But I guess the good thing about Short Fuse personalities is you know when their fuse will blow out more predictably than you can the Long Fuse wale.
LOL you duffers OF COURSE I knew about it… the excitement has just kicked in cos I read somewhere it's aimed for a 2009 release… and since we're well over halfway through the year, I'm all yippie yay jumping around too much excitement!!!!!!!!!
