If any one can identify the following song (qawallii?) along with the film title, lyrics and translation, please:
“Nikaahein Milane Ko Jee Chahata hai,
Aankhen Milane ko Jee Chaahata hai, jee chahata hai….”
I am not sure the exact beginning.
The song is from a movie in the early-mid sixtys. It is a love song and the actress (Saadhana? Whaheeda Rehman? Asha Parekh? Hema Malini? has the North Indian Muslim dress (with a veil)- college setting.

raaz kii baat hai
it is a secret
mehafil me.n kahe.n yaa na kahe.n
should I say it or not in the gathering
bas gayaa hai koii is dil me.n kahe.n yaa na kahe.n
some one has taken residence in this heart, should I say or not
kahe.n yaa na kahe.n …
should I say or not
nigaahe.n milaane ko jii chaahataa hai
my heart wants to meet eyes
dil-o-jaa.n luTaane ko jii chaahataa hai
my heart wants to give away my heart and life
vo tohamat jise ishq kahatii hai duniyaa
the allegation that the world calls love
vo tohamat uThaane ko jii chaahataa hai
my heart wants to experience that allegation
kisii ke manaane me.n lazzat vo paayii
I have found such pleasure in some ones coaxing me
ki phir ruuTh jaane ko jii chaahataa hai
that now again I want to get vexed at him
vo jalavaa jo ojhal bhii hai saamane bhii
the splendour which is hidden and yet in front of me
vo jalavaa churaane ko jii chaahataa hai
my heart wants to steal that splendour
o… jis gha.Dii merii nigaaho.n ko terii diid huii
the moment when my eys got a glimpse of you
vo gha.Dii mere liye aish kii tamahiid huii
that moment became the beginning of pleasure
jab kabhii mai.nne teraa chaa.Nd saa cheharaa dekhaa
when ever I saw your beautiful face (like the moon)
iid ho yaa ki na ho mere liye iid huii
whether it was EID or not for me it became EID (muslim festival)
vo jalavaa jo ojhal bhii hai saamane bhii
vo jalavaa churaane ko jii chaahataa hai
mulaaqaat kaa koii paiGaam diijiye kii
give me an invitation to a meeting because
chhup chhupake aane ko jii chaahataa hai
my heart wants to come to you hidden from everyone
aur aake na jaane ko jii chaahataa hai
and my heart wants to come and then not go
aur aake na jaane ko jii chaahataa hai
nigaahe.n milaane ko jii chaahataa hai

I have not seen the movie so I do not know if the song was filmed on Nutan or not. It does not seem the type of song Nutan typically sang in movies but who knows. It could just be an item number in the movie portrayed on some dancer.

Thanks for giving it a try. You are correct that it is not Nutan and it was not Dil Hi To Hai either. Some avid movie fan of early-mid sixties should be able to recall.
Thanks again.

What makes you so sure that it is not from the movie Dil Hi To Hai? I tried it in Google and got 50 hits and each site tells me that this song is from Dil Hi To Hai, which was a movie made in 1963. I had no doubts about the movie name being correct. The only point I made was that it is not the typical style of song that Nutan sings in movies which is why I was thinking that it might be an item song where there is a qawali sequence in the movie some where. Also, I can not say for sure that Nutan did not sing it since I have not seen the movie.

I can’t thank you enough – I spent so many weeks to find it. Your perseverance, I listened to the particular song from Dil Hi To Hai on musicindiaonline.com and I am convinced of the melody along with the lyrics. I am sorry to have questioned your eatlier suggestion. Thanks again.
